Nothing reminds us of the fall season more than pie. And with the area’s rich abundance of locally grown fruits, apple pie is among the region’s most popular baked goods.
The Long Valley Green Market recently held an apple pie baking contest and saw a dozen entries – but only one could be named champion.
While all entries were exceptional, Dave Kemp’s “Oldwick Apple Pie” stood above the rest, according to Leona Harrington, and was crowned champion.
Following the Oldwick variation of the pie was Lucy Fontanarossa’s “French Apple Crumb Caramel,” and in third place was Anita Zarate’s “Best Apple Pie Ever.”
The competitions don’t end there, of course, as the Long Valley Green Market will host its annual pumpkin carving contest on Thursday, Oct. 24 and pumpkin pie making contest on Thursday, Nov. 14.
